A Poem

Ask me not where all this leads
How long, how far or how wide?
Only yesterday we felt so secure,
Stubborn even.
Then this crack last night
Set us adrift, so swift
As the joint ice on the vast ocean
No time for farewells
With all the knowing embellishments.
Here we plod along with the tide and wait,
Stragglers in an immense dominion of silence.
All around us,
The vastness of nowhere.
How navigate this wilderness?
What new songs sing?
What tales tell
What remember?

Far in the distance
We thought we were secure
Today we are not too sure
Where will this plodding terminate?
What will it bring?
Laughter, despair, insight?
What kind?
I demure floating without roots
But in this too
I see the beauty of silence
The excellence of nothingness
The serenity of vastness.
Phoenix-like we await
How long the wait?
How long the renewal?
Let’s not contemplate
Let’s float along as we wait

Why did we miss all this?
That we’re harbingers of a new dominion
Abandoning the old
The new raconteurs.
